I forgot to take my camera with me to today’s Tea Party event at the Tennessee Legislators Plaza, but if you look online at my friend Ol’ Broad at http://olbroad.com/2009/02/27/good-day-for-a-tea-party/
you can see some pictures and links to more video’s and photos.
It was a great turnout, I have been reading some commenting that we are McCain Republicans who are sore losers and asked where is the diversity. I want to let these people and others out there know a few things.

  1. The people who support the New American Tea Party are not your McCain Republicans. We are Right of Center and only supported McCain because he was the candidate that was put before us and was not our first choice.
  2. We do not blindly follow or reject a political figure based on the letter at the end of their name. We are principled and will call out the Republicans as readily as we call out the Democrats.
  3. If the Liberal/Democrats actually based their decision on principles, then they would have loved Bush with his policy of expanded entitlement with Medicare Prescription Drug, his plan for amnesty for illegal immigrants and his support for TARP and other “stimulus” monies that were more spending than actual tax cuts.
  4. We are not just out their saying NO, we actually have a response and alternative plan that is based on sound economic principles and history that proves them. We do not play on peoples emotions and try and scare the Hell out of them.
  5. For example, we applaud Gov. Bredesen for looking at the money TN is supposed to receive and possibly turning down the monies that are mandates that do not have a revenue stream and would bankrupt the state. We applauded Rep. Cooper when he initially voted against the “stimulus” bill and called him out when he caved in to the White House pressure.

Sorry for going on that rant. Back to the Tea Party. It was drizzling rain and pretty cold compared to earlier in the day. My friend Blue Collar Muse and I thought the turnout would be muted because of the weather and the fact that the planning for this event did not start until last Saturday.

But boy were we pleasantlysurprised. The beginning of the event we had about 150 people there. By the middle of the rally we have over 600 attendees. This will not be the only event held. You can find out more about future events on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2174691&id=41106525&ref=nf#/group.php?gid=131981320191. The most accurate report from local news outlets was from Channel 2 News WKRN. Our local Channel 4 News and Fox 17 only used an AP report and Channel 5 News had the least accurate report saying only several dozen showed up for the event. The speakers were great, the signs were great, and I think a sleeping giant was awakened today. The best sign I saw said “Obamanomics: Chains We Can Believe In.” The second best was a woman that had a sign that read “We Got Hosed” and she had a water hose draped around her neck. We had one of the largest in the Nation today and I am proud of our Tennessee brethren that showed up for the rally despite the weather.

God Bless,

American Dad
